Our Care Services

DTA Residential offers 24-hour care and support to looked after children and young people, aged 11 years +, who have been referred by local authorities due to a range of circumstances. Many of the children and young people in care have a variety of complex needs and will have experienced disturbance or neglect in their lives. We provide an approach that responds to the bespoke needs and circumstances of the child or young person. As well as providing care and support, children and young people are supported and empowered by a range of integrated services to ensure the best outcomes for progression and better futures.

We work in partnership with our children and young people, parents and professionals to ensure that all our children and young people succeed and achieve positive outcomes. We offer five keywork sessions per week as standard (more if required, or alternatively less in a more ad hoc setting dependent on the needs of the child or young person). We also incorporate independent living within our preparation for working life skills program (age appropriate). Within this program, we assist in the reconstruction of high order thinking to support and plan for their futures in terms of recognising personal care and a pathway in life. We pride ourselves on having a committed and diverse staff team who create a friendly and homely environment and provide the care and support that is needed. We are more than just staff; we are familiar faces that greet the children and young people each day, offering a listening ear and a helping hand.

Our Facilities

The flagship home is a 4-bedroomed property situated 3 minutes from the beach in Eastbourne. The home has three floors, consisting of a kitchen/dining room, fitted kitchen; it offers four young people bedrooms (there is one emergency space), which can be tailored to the child or young person’s, a room providing staff sleep-in facilities and there are two bathrooms. There is a conservatory located at the back of the property. Cooking and washing facilities are accessible to the young residents in the home. As part of the pathway to progress, they are encouraged to prepare food and when scheduled to, wash their clothes. Breakfast and evening meals are provided, and the young people are responsible for keeping the communal areas clean and tidy. They are encouraged to undertake house chores alongside the staff team but are expected to try to keep their bedrooms clean and tidy (but staff are always happy to help). Each young person has a bedroom to which they and the staff on shift both hold a key. Furniture is regularly checked and maintained in good order. In our house and we strive to promote the values of healthy family living and provide young people with structure, personal space, respect and a relaxing environment.

We have additional homes in London that emulate our Eastbourne home. Please contact us if you require any further information.

Life at DTA Residential

Outside in our garden space, we can BBQ all year round and enjoy our home. We have fruit trees growing, bushes with strawberries, gooseberries and garden vegetables that assists the, ‘From the ground to the table’ cooking programme. We will all maintain the garden to ensure we enjoy the fresh products all year round. Our East Sussex home is a stone throw away from the beach, and outside facilities from water sports to hiking. Not far away are a selection of gyms to choose from; each recreational time can be a different experience! Options for single hobbies or group participation will be agreed upon. Friendly, experienced care staff will endeavour to provide practical and emotional care and support that will cement positive and trusting therapeutic relationships.

Our London homes are within walking distance from parks and recreation centres, which consist of greenery, youth clubs and playgrounds.
We like to be known as a family. This is based on our core philosophy; being ‘at one with self and others’. This means that we endeavour to create a tranquil environment where we can communicate in a respectful and considerate way with each other – our ethos is value family (your fellow residents and the staff team), value each other. After a busy day at your school/training/educational facility, evening activities may be focused on specific interventions or leisure time in which we can commune with housemates and enjoy chilling, listening to music or just enjoying the company of your peers.

Education

At times mainstream education may not be effective in meeting the desired needs. Many children and young people may have experienced a range of negative experiences within a school/college setting, e.g. bullying, conflict, truancy, and low academic grades. We aim to reshape these experiences by providing stimulating educational assistance. We believe that education is essential to a progressive life. We will always be available to assist with homework and projects to encourage a seamless education platform. As part of the stay with us, the children and young people will work through a range of our inhouse support programmes that assist in shaping the education of independent living and life choices. Our support programmes are informal and not yet accredited.

Safeguarding and Protecting Young People

Our homes have robust safeguarding policies to protect children and young people, staff and visitors. The Registered Manager and Registered individual are responsible for ensuring that all incidents involving the suspicion of risk or harm, or actual risk or harm to the child or young person in the home care, are recorded and promptly reported to the local Child Protection/Safeguarding teams/Ofsted and Police (where possible and necessary). This includes incidents, which may have occurred (or are alleged to have happened) while the children and young people are away from the home, at school/college etc.
