Lucas (Brixton)
When I was only fifteen, I got involved with a local gang and diffused into a world of theft and various crimes. My parents were divorced and lacked positive role models in my life. I made bad choices and was stuck with the wrong people at the wrong time. Then there came the point in my life where I decided that it was time to make changes. I got referred to the DTA Residential, and they provided me with the support, mentoring and an education platform that enabled me to contemplate on my choices and have a second chance at life. I must say DTA Residential changed my life and provided me with the positivity I was missing in my life. I was able to utilize the mentors, morning noon or night. It was good to have someone to talk you out of repeating your mistakes. We became family, the cared what happened to me. My school paid for my education and l worked with DTA RESIDENTIAL staff to pass 3 GCSEs. Even my school was shocked, they didn’t expect me to be entered, let alone pass. DTA RESIDENTIAL believed in me!

Waleed (Mitcham)
I went to the UK to seek refuge from war in the Middle East, but due to my financial instabilities, I got involved with the wrong people and got arrested multiple times. After a while, my close friend told me about DTA Residential and how they can help me positively change my life. With DTA Residential, I have been able to maintain my cultural practices and all my religious beliefs. I also attend a local mosque in the area and have many friends from a diverse background that are always there to support me. DTA RESIDENTIAL as part of the LAC program helped me to have better command in the English language, they helped me too cook and become a part of the UK. The mentors were great and encouraging, and it was like being a part of a positive environment. I loved being with them and thank Merton council for giving me a home and a new life.

When I got pregnant with my boyfriend, my only parent, my mother was completely overwhelmed by my condition whilst still in school, I was a stubborn child, and I left my home. The council took me in. Then the authorities recommended DTA RESIDENTIAL. DTA RESIDENTIAL provided the support I needed to become a mum and an independent person. It was a place that taught me the necessary skills such as cooking, budgeting while delivering hands-on medical advice on how to manage my pregnancy. I was depressed as l was mocked out of school due to my pregnancy, I felt angry and defiant at life. DTA RESIDENTIAL became my life savers and helped me progress from a troubled teen to an older teem capable of taking care of a baby. They enrolled me for GCSEs and l passed. They encouraged me to learn a trade that could sustain me and my baby for life. I am now a qualified nurse.
